Yes, I know it is boring history now. But at least it's not Girdles (It controls you with roses!)

Ooh, see if you can spot the feature Apple patented well over a year after I implemented it. That's a fun game.

the prototype

  • wa3_prealpha_14-Mar-2000.zip: this is as far back as they go. This one's really just a quickie prototype to try out some ideas... kinda ugly, huh? But it does work :) Oh, you might need/want to delete ripper.wac.

    internal alphas (we called them office betas so we'd look like we were farther along and would maybe actually install it)

    where are 1-2? I don't know. I think they were so buggy we didn't give them out.

This is the office beta. This is confidential and stuff. Refer to your
employee confidentiality agreement and stuff. Yeah. Seriously, don't take
this out of the office. The real beta will be here soon enough and you

  • wa3install_alpha666_nommx.exe Text is the same as 666. This one didn't crash non-MMX machines, that's about the only difference. Because it didn't use MMX. It was the non-MMX version.
  • wa3install_alpha667.exe: autodetects MMX on the fly. Otherwise basically exactly the same as 666.
  • wa3install_alpha8.exe: get it? 667 was actually #7. I guess. Or maybe we skipped #7. Why yes, I do think I thought I was clever or something.

    Ta-da! That's what you missed. After that it was all betas and rushed 1.0's and reallocating everyone on the team but me to work on other, doomeder projects and never ever allowing us to update the binary on the fucking FRONT PAGE of the site for over a YEAR despite my releasing 10 or 12 more builds during that time (out the back door via my .plan) with many many bug fixes and features added, just to save a couple bucks on QA cuz fuck those Nullsoft guys, arrogant pricks...

    Then Justin, Francis, and Christophe performed the mighty meld of 2 + 3 = 5. And it was all awesome.

    p.s. I tried for a while to split off a viable wasabi.player but it was game over man. Altho you can get the wasabi.player skin for Winamp 5.x. It is my skin of choice. Dig them smooth vectors!
